Ghana: John Dumelo Pre-Orders A Kantanka Pick-Up

 Ghana: John Dumelo Pre-Orders A Kantanka Pick-Up

After Kantanka Automobile Co. Ltd on On August 7, announced its intention to invite the public to test drive the Kantanka made vehicles, John Dumelo, a Ghanaian actor and businessman, has expressed his desire to own one of the cars.
The actor posted a picture of himself sitting in one of the Kantanka made pick-ups accompanied by the a short piece; “Had a test drive of the new KANTANKA 4 wheel drive....proudly made in Ghana! Pre ordered mine already...it's time we believe in our products!”
The Ghanaian actor and businessman is one of the celebrities who continuously advocate that Ghanaians patronise locally manufactured products.
When infoboxdaily contacted John to find out about his exclusive test drive, he said, he voluntarily passed by and test drove one of the pick-ups because of his admiration for Kantanka’s inventions “I was on my way from Takoradi and I decided to go and visit the factory because I have had that in mind long ago, I always want to visit the factory and see what’s going on there.”
Being one of the known faces to test drive one of Kantanka’s soon-to-hit the market vehicles, we asked for his assessment on Kantanka’s car as compared to other vehicles “It was great, when you sit inside the pickup, it feels like any other pick-up, you can easily compare it to a Ford, Mazda Pick-up, Toyota or a Nissan pick-up.”

The actor confirmed that he’s indeed pre-ordered one of the Kantanka 4×4 pick-ups. “I have pre-ordered one of the 4×4 pick-ups and I will use it a lot; for some of my activities.”
“I had an opportunity of touring the whole place and I think Kantanka’s inventions are great, he’s a wonderful man, it’s amazing that we have such a man with foresight on our Continent.”
He believes if the government invests in individuals with such potentials, the economy would move from its current poor state to a better one. “I don’t know if he needs support from the government but I think he should be supported, he’s a great man and he should be given all support.”
Adding “If government decides to buy say 5000 of Kantanka’s vehicles for ministries and for other activities, it will go a long way to help the company and the economy. Ghana imports too much.”
The actor who strongly supports the use of home-made products thinks the government should again develop the human resource base of the country so Ghana can process more of its raw materials into finished goods “It’s sad to that we ship timber out, it’s processed and sold back to us as furniture and we buy it ten 15 times the price, we ship cocoa out and buy chocolate back at higher prices. We have all the resources all we need is the technical know-how.”
Some people are gradually developing interest and confidence in purchasing some of the Kantanka made vehicles as a result of the recommendation and endorsements by the actor.
I think it’s time to start believing in ourselves. People with exceptional potentials like Kantanka should be given the support to motivate them do more. We need to change our mindsets; the pre-conceived idea that anything manufactured locally isn’t good. Must we continue to be independently dependent?
