New Movie: Reggie Rockstone Acts In ‘White Is Black’

After playing a role as a DJ in Mensa and Wanlov’s ‘Coz Ov Moni’, the celebrated Godfather of the music genre ‘hip life’, Reggie Rockstone has featured in a new movie, where he played Nathan, a Rastafarian.
Reggie Rockstone was at the receiving end of a wrong number dialed by Amanda (Georgina Ahiable), a middle aged broken hearted attorney who was actually calling her uncle, Tawiah. Amanda, still discovering who really she is, falls in love with Reggie on the telephone. When she eventually meets Reggie Rockstone, she was disappointed because the man she has fallen for is a Rastafarian.
To Amanda she will rather reconcile with her flirting fiancĂ© than date a Rastafarian. This decision ends her deeper wounds. Broken heart and dejected, Amanda can’t help but witness her career diminish.
Amanda took a bold step and left the hassle life in the city to the countryside to find peace with her heart, mind and soul and also find Nathan. In her attempt to find Nathan and peace for herself, Amanda instinctively ushers herself into the realm of the Rastafarian and Pan- Africanists. She subsequently changed her notions and misconceptions of the Rastafarian.
The table turns, a more enlightened Amanda now desperate in love with Nathan now has an onerous task of winning his love. But will the conscious gentleman give in …
According to the director of the movie, ‘White Is Black’ Is a movie dedicated toward erasing the age long delusion mankind has over one of the world sect and religions, the Rastafarian. It at the same seeks to educate the viewing public on some of the myths and history surrounding the black and African.
Aside grand papa, the movie features entirely new faces such as Georgina Ahiable, Benjamin Nana Addo, Jamaican Born Kofi El Shabaz and Ihmakus, Ekow Morrison, Abena Danso and Harriet Nortey. Acting was average.
PRMD Consult, Flipside Studio and Jet black concept, the companies responsible for the movie will premiere it at the Promising Star Hotel in Kumasi on the 17th July 2010 and also at the National Theatre on 7th August, 2010.
This movie is recommended for Rastafarians and people who believe in black emancipation.

RED ALERT: Killers Chase Actress

ACTOR Majid Michel recently escaped death when he refused to eat his food after he realized it had being poisoned, and while the dust is yet to settle on that issue, the family of actress Yvonne Nelson are troubled about death threats on her life.

Though family members are keeping the issue under wraps, Yvonne Nelson has confirmed to NEWS-ONE that she received information that some persons have concluded a well-planned strategy to kill her and that the operation would soon be carried out.

She was however not told which persons were after her life and for what reasons.

“It was a simple call and the person said “‘Yvonne they want to kill you. They are after your life so be careful’. Everything that has to do with life and death should be taken serious and I am treating it like that. I don’t know who and I don’t know why they want to kill me,” Yvonne noted and revealed that she was on her way to lodge an official complaint with the police.

When asked whether or not she was scared and how it had affected her life, the actress noted: “I wouldn’t say I am scared or not but for a human being to sit down and plan to kill me, another human being, it is serious. It is something that I don’t have to play with and I am treating it as such.”

NEWS-ONE can report that her family members are worried about this particular threat. One of them revealed that she had received a couple of threats in the past but this particular one appears too sinister to be taken as a joke.

“We don’t know what Yvonne has done. It is not just a person but a group of people who are planning this. Right now Yvonne is scared, she doesn’t know who her enemies are and who to trust,” the close source told this paper.

LOVE LIFE

Yvonne Nelson can pass for the Ghanaian actress who has generated the most controversy in recent times concerning her love life and career.

The media have been curious about which man is warming her bed but she has denied all five names that were linked to her.

Sometime last year, reports said she was head over heels in a love with soccer hero Derrick Boateng. Just when Ghanaians started to believe the report, Yvonne made a U-turn and said she and the footballer were just close friends and that there was nothing amorous between them.

Then the name of musician cum TV show host Jon Germain popped up. Jon was reported to have confirmed that indeed he had something to do with Yvonne, and once again just when the report was sinking in, she denied having anything to do with Jon. Till date, it is not certain which of them should be believed.

Yvonne again told Ghanaians that it was not true she and ace musician Sarkodie were dating. She said the only thing she had in common with Sarkodie was that he helped her in her campaign to raise funds to create awareness on Glaucoma.

The same Yvonne has also denied dating Samini and the whole episode raises questions as to why she has been linked to so many guys. When she appeared on KSM’s Thank God Its Friday, she confessed that one Micheal was the man in her life but later said she was only joking and that the Micheal she was referring to was the late Micheal Jackson.

Again, when she appeared on ETV’s Late Night Celebrity Show, Yvonne Nelson gave two different answers on whether or not she was dating. When first asked the question, her answer was a straight ‘no’.

As the program continued, she said she was dating an unnamed ‘handsome tall guy’. Then she changed her answer and denied being in a relationship when she was asked to give some information on the guy she claims to be dating.

A couple of weeks ago, she was rumored to be a hard core lesbian, but she denied that allegation and dared her accusers to back their claim with evidence.

YVONNE’S SWAGG

Yvonne topped news headlines when she bought a brand new white coloured Volkswagen Touareg 2011 model for a mouth-watering $72,000.00.

She recently launched a one stop fashion and hair products boutique. The boutique is called YN’s Closet while the hairline is called YN Hairline. Yvonne also founded the Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma, an organization that creates awareness about Glaucoma.

J Holiday, known as Nahum Grymes, on the other hand came into prominence in 2007 with his chart topping song, Bed off the Back of My Lack album, which managed a number 5 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, the same year.

Official: Andre Villas-Boas appointed as new Chelsea manager

Villas-Boas
English powerhouse Chelsea have appointed former Porto coach Andre Villas-Boas as their new manager. The Portuguese tactician has signed a three-year deal with the London giants.

Chelsea were in the market for a new manager ever since the departure of Carlo Ancelotti in May and they have now found their man. The 33-year-old Villas-Boas resigned as Porto coach on Tuesday and now returns to the club where he previously worked at Chelsea as Jose Mourinho's assistant.

"Andre was the outstanding candidate for the job. He is one of the most talented young managers in football today and has already achieved much in a relatively short space of time," a statement on the Chelsea website reads.

"His ambition, drive and determination matches that of Chelsea and we are confident Andre's leadership of the team will result in greater successes in major domestic and European competitions.

"Andre will bring his coaching experience back to a club he is already very familiar with, having previously worked here for three years. He has always been highly regarded at Chelsea and everyone here looks forward to welcoming him back and working with him."

After his appointment, attention will now turn to which players Villas-Boas and the club's directors will look to bring in ahead of the new campaign.

Chelsea have already been linked with some of Villas-Boas' former Porto stars, such as Colombia striker Radamel Falcao, a player who could reportedly follow his former boss to west London this summer.

Musicians Can’t Buy Food: Abodam

Award-winning hip-life artiste Kwaw Kesse, known in showbiz circles as Abodam, has revealed that most of his colleague musicians in Ghana cannot afford a decent meal and have to literally beg for food.

According to Abodam, most Ghanaian musicians, especially those who fall within the hip hop category, are living a false life. He said they pretend to be okay by dressing in expensive designer clothing when they appear in public but actually have nothing in their bank accounts because their songs are not doing well on the market and they have no other means of income.

Speaking to Delores Frempong Manso on her Delay TV show, Abodam said there were many times he had to buy food for well-known musicians whose songs are enjoying some good airplay.

He explained that having “your song played on radio does not mean there is money in your pocket” because Ghanaians generally do not buy original CDs as most people rather prefer to pirate the songs.

“So they rely on shows but how many shows are even held for a whole year in Ghana and at each show, how many musicians can be invited. So that is the problem. They wait to be invited to shows and if for a year there is no show, then they start to hustle but cannot openly admit this in public,” Abodam explained.

“The problem is that they do songs that do not last and we tend to copy foolishly. We always copy the Nigerians and they laugh at us and ask us to be original. How can a Ghanaian musician sing a song in Ghana and say ‘I dey kolo’? That is rubbish because it is a Nigerian expression and the Ghanaian fans would not fully understand the actual meaning of your song. If you are singing in Ghana, just go straight to the point and say ‘I dey craze’ or ‘I dey mad’ and your people will like you because you are original,” Abodam added.

When asked to mention the manes of the musicians he was referring to, Abodam said there was no need to drop any names because that would be below the belt.

He however said the musicians doing hip-hop and twi-pop are the most affected.

The host then mentioned the names of VIP, D-Cryme, Zigi (U say Wetin) and Stay Jay (Shashii wow o) for him to choose which of them fall within his category.

Abodam responded that VIP and D-Cryme are very good musicians who he has lots of respect for. Abodam said he has never heard of Zigi and his ‘U Say Wetin’ song because he does not listen to such songs. With regard to ‘Shashii Wowo’ by Stay Jay, Abodam said the ‘Shashii

Wowo’ is a people’s song that would not last.

Sarkodie is so hot right now, having already clinched a distribution and clothing line deal with Konvict Musik owned by the third richest billionaire musician, Akon.

Michael Owusu Addo, better known as Sarkodie, will also be making his first appearance in New Jersey and the good thing about it is that his New Jersey fans will get to listen to his ‘Rappaholic’ album before his fans in Ghana.

The concert is also expected to be beefed up with the finest Ghanaian musicians already based in the states. Before Sarkodie comes on stage, DJ Mensa (Michael Mensah Ayenu) i

s billed to thrill the audience with indigenous Ghanaian songs.

Majid Poisoned

News-One has gathered that players within Ghana’s movie industry are covering up an incident in which actor Majid Michel reportedly had a poisonous substance put in his food.

Our sources say during the shooting of the movie ‘Somewhere in Africa’, medical reports suggested that someone had put poison in a tin of milk Majid was supposed to have used in his food.

“It was very serious but we have been asked to keep quiet about it. When he took the tin of milk, he realized that the contents had changed into a very black substance so he got scared and raised an alarm. He was taken to the hospital and the doctors confirmed that it was food poisoning.

“It is not clear who exactly did it but the milk was opened the previous night and was to have been used but something else came up so he put the milk back in the fridge and went with his friends to eat in town. “The next morning he took it again to use and saw the black substance,” the source revealed.

Two other sources who were part of the cast and crew of ‘Somewhere In Africa’ also confirmed the report to News-One but begged to remain anonymous. What they added was that Majid left his hotel room door open when he went out with friends that previous night, noting that was the time his milk might have been poisoned.

The incident reportedly happened in a hotel near Shia Hills in Accra.

The award-winning actor recently topped headlines when he was sacked from the red carpet being used by celebrities and VIPs at the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival in France last month because he was not wearing the right type of shoes, News-One has gathered.

An eyewitness told News-One that: “It was a very long red carpet and when Majid hit the run way he was very happy, walking with a spring in his steps when suddenly the guys from security and protocol signaled him to come over.

“He initially thought it was for an autograph or something but his face changed when they informed him that he had been given five minutes to either leave the red carpet or go change his shoes.

“He was dressed in a pair of jeans, and a jacket on top but was wearing a pair of sneakers on his feet…it was both funny and a bit embarrassing but eventually he had to get off the carpet and quickly buy a pair of new shoes from a Lebanese guy who was selling some cheap executive shoes not far away,” the source who attended the Cannes

Film Festival narrated.

Ini Edo to build a school for deprived community

                                    INI EDO

Nollywood actress and United Nation’s Habitat Youth Ambassador, Ini Edo has revealed plans of building a new school for the inhabitants of Dustbin Estate in Ajegunle, a district in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The actress was recently appointed an ambassador alongside fellow Nollywood actor, Ramsey Nouah and India's Bollywood actor, Vikram Shah.

She was moved by a visit to that area on April 23 when she assumed duties as an ambassador, promising to do her best to help alleviate the plight of the inhabitants of the estate.

Ajegunle is a very famous district in Nigeria producing some of Nigeria’s best known musical and football talents notable among them Samson Siasia, coach of Nigeria's Olympic Team; former African Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amunike; and former Super Eagles defender Taribo West.

Ini Edo told Nigeriafilms.com that, "The living condition in this place is bad enough but the schools there are worse; I had to climb into a class through the window. The classrooms are tattered, there are no toilets, blackboard or good seats; more so, what would you make of a school where children pay N20 per day as school fees.”

The actress lamented; “I never thought a place like that exists in Nigeria; this should not be encouraged to continue. Every Nigerian child has a right to quality education wherever the child lives in.”

She was however of the view that, “For me the way forward for children in the Dustbin Estate is quality education; a person who is educated is empowered with a choice to a better life, so I am going to do all within my power to ensure that children in the Dustbin Estate have a quality school to themselves."
