Jackie Appiah

As you read this, Ghanaian movie star, Jackie Apiah, fellow Ghanaian compatriot David Ossei and fast raising Nollywood star Nkem Ike are recovering from the rude shock they witnessed in the hands of a certain Nollywood producer-Uche a. K. a one and two productions as well as an executive producer-Ugo High.

Information available to Nigeriafilm.com has it that One and two productions has been on set for a while with the intention of shooting over ten movies at a stretch before releasing them at once into the market. In other to carry this huge project to an end Uche who is also known as One and Two relied on the financial arsenal of his executive producers Ugo High, who promised to fund these movies to the end.

But as days turned to weeks and weeks to months, the financial muscle of the Lagos hotelier grew weak and Ugo High had no other choice than to abandon both the producer and stars on set before going into hiding.

Nigeriafilm.com checks at Ugo High’s One Hundred Percent hotel located at Opebi yielded no fruit but we were able to talk to Nkem Ike on what transpired on set .

Hello Nkem, have you finished your production with one and two productions?

Nkem: I am no longer on that set...

Did you conclude the shoot?

Nkem: I am no longer on that set and I do not know if they have ended.

We gathered your executive producer abandoned you on set, is it true?

Nkem: I do not know anything about that and I am not the one to provide information on such issues.

The line goes death.

STAR ACTRESS UCHE JOMBO FINALLY OPENS UP ABOUT ABORTION SCANDAL

Click for Full Image Size
If you call her an Avenging Angel on a deadly mission, you won’t be wrong. Highly rated Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo is so angry with a reporter who accused her of aborting a six-month unborn baby that she wants to harm him. Jombo who sees herself as ‘emotional’ says the libelous story had brought her so much anguish and tears that she cannot help but seek her own pound of flesh.

“You know how emotional I am. I have cried for smaller things but this one, I still curse the person, till tomorrow. It will only take God for me to see the person and not harm him”

In fact, the Glo ambassador who recently premiered her latest movie, Damage, is visibly galled, exasperated and ready to bare her fang.

For Jombo, the only panacea that would assuage her current disposition is justice from a court of competent jurisdiction.

The negative impact of the “front page news”, which embittered Jombo described as “false and malicious” still haunts her, hence her reason for threatening fire and brimstone.

“For me, that was my biggest scandal ever. It was really damaging and I won’t stop fighting till I get justice”, insists the star who breezed into Tinsel town in 1999, on the set of Visa to Hell.

She continues: “Well, I’m currently in court with the soft-sell magazine, for writing what I have come to consider the worst media story in my entire life and career, which was completely false and malicious. During the world premiere of my second movie last year, Holding Hope, I lost so much weight deliberately based on my character as a Cancer patient only for this paper to write on their front page that I aborted a pregnancy at six months, hence the lost of weight,” she recollects with tears in her sexy eyes.

“It’s still all over the net, just Google Uche Jombo/abortion, you’ll see over 500 pages…That story nearly shattered my life, my family legacy and all that I have laboured for in my entire career, in fact, it almost killed me. When you say someone aborted a six-month-old pregnancy, you are not just saying it’s an abortion, you are equally saying that person is a murderer because, six months, a baby is already formed and I don’t know where any one gets off thinking you can lose weight by having abortion,” she defends.

Salinko To Wed Vivian Jill

Credible information reaching The Weekend Moment indicates that Esumman Kofi Davies, known as Salinko will soon tie the knot with beautiful Ghanaian actress, Vivian Jill.

The two Kumasi-based movie stars are among few popular Ghanaian stars like; Okyeame Quophi and Stacy, former Ghanaian footballer Tony Baffoe and star actress Kalsoume Sinari-Baffoe, among others to be joined in holy matrimony.

The report indicates that the Vivian and Salinko have dated for almost three months and are seriously in love with each other though the relationship between the two has been hidden from public eye.

“All other things being equal, the two will get married before the close of the year, because Salinko has already presented drinks for the (knocking) marriage rites. I can confidently say that Vivian is happy with the arrangements so far”, the source hinted.

“Vivian is a beautiful lady most men are crazy over. This scares Salinko, notwithstanding, he is all fired up for the marriage proper of the beautiful actress by December”, a source close to Salinko hinted.

When contacted Salinko, confirmed that he is madly in love with Vivian and plans are far advanced for them to be joined in holy matrimony.

“It is true but this is not something I want to comment about but it is true, she (Vivian) is the love of my life and i will not hesitate sacrificing my head for her, if the need arises”, he noted.

When Salinko was pushed further on the subject, he unwillingly told the story of how he met the fair skinned actress. He said “I realized that Nana Ama (MacBrown), Emelia Brobeby and the other actresses were married, so I cannot go out with any of them.

“Initially I thought she (Vivian) was married but my investigations revealed otherwise. I proposed to her but she did not readily give in to my proposal until her mother died and I contributed a cheque worth several hundreds of Ghana cedis...She readily gave in to my proposal and asked if I have properties, I told her that currently I have a plot of land yet to be developed but I can cruise her around in my car,” Salinko said proudly.

“I have already presented the drinks to her family and she has promised not to let me down, though I’m a bit sad that her mother never lived to see her daughter getting married to a prominent and responsible man like me”, Salinko told The Weekend Moment.

In related development, Salinko was nearly assaulted in Kumasi by parents of a fifteen year old boy with rheumatism, whom he mistakenly shaved (the hair) as a practice for his upcoming TV series on TV3, “Shoe Shine And The Barber”.

Throwing more light on this development, he indicated that “I have been shaving the hair of children in Kumasi as a rehearsal for my upcoming TV series but unknown to me, the boy was suffering from rheumatism. After shaving him, he started behaving in a very funny way, I thought he was joking but his behaviour became alarming until I was told he was suffering from rheumatism”.

“Though I am a star, the parents of the boy nearly had me lynched but the timely intervention of people around, who calmed them down prevented any possible mishap.

“My brother, the matter didn’t end there as the boy’s parents grabbed the neck of my shirt so tight that I could hardly breathe not until I ‘vomited’ one hundred Ghana cedis for them,” he explained.

Frank Artus Opens Up On Gay Rumours

Fast-rising actor,Gregory Frank Artus is one character you can’t ignore in Ghana’s Ghollywood movie industry. The fair skinned role interpreter, who has featured in more than 50 movies,is the toast of producers in the industry.

In a recent interview, he opens up about the gay roles he plays in movies.

He said; Honestly,I don’t like it at all.The role Muna Ibekwe played in Dirty Secret,I was called up for that role but couldn’t make it to the location.

But that role I played with Tonto Dikeh entitled “Under”, the reason I played that role is because when you are just coming up as an artist, you have to do a lot of things for you to get recognition. From there you become more marketable.

The role I played with Tonto Dikeh in Under,I actually begged the director that it would not be nice to kiss a guy,he obliged and we went on set.

On the rumour of being gay,he said I am not a gay.Let people talk, they would always talk,I know I am not a gay.Everybody that knows me know I’m not gay except those that don’t know me who want to rubbish my person.

$100,000 for MUSIGA

President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kufuor aka Obour, has challenged companies and corporate bodies in Ghana to emulate the example of Dr Kofi Amoah, Chief Executive of the Citizen Kofi Entertainment Center, who has pledged a cash amount of $100,000 for the music union.
Kofi Amoah, at the inauguration of Obour with his newly elected MUSIGA executive, said he was giving out the amount to help re-brand the image of the union.
“I am particularly grateful to Kofi Amoah and MUSIGA cannot thank him enough.
This is real commitment to the interest of musicians in Ghana and not just lips service as we have seen and heard from others.
“There are companies in this country that pretend to be friends of the music industry but would hardly show any commitment to MUSIGA.
They may be doing well by getting one artiste or another to endorse their products for a contract fee but that is different from actually doing something to support the mother union of musicians and that would be my focus for now.
“MUSIGA would be making a concerted effort to get corporate Ghana and private individuals to follow the example of Kofi Amoah and show real genuine meaningful and long term commitment to our industry,” Obour added.
Kofi Amoah, in an interview with Peace FM’s ‘Entertainment Review’ over the matter last Saturday, called on the ruling government to shift its investment attention to the very promising music industry in Ghana.
“What I am saying is that Ghana government must look for money and invest in the music industry so that we can take it to the global market in a polished form; nicely packaged, with advertising and marketing strongly behind it.
“If we do our music well and package it to meet the world standard and we send it to the world market, it will generate huge income for the country and the musicians, it will put Ghana on the map and also attractive international investments”.
“I want us to be able to invite international music stars like Beyonce to visit MUSIGA office and she will respect Ghanaian musicians when she departs,” Dr. Kofi Amoah noted.

Agya Koo Enjoys Yvonne

Actor Agya Koo did not let an opportunity to rock the backside of actress Yvonne Nelson slip by in a latest controversial photograph of the two stars.
NEWS-ONE could not establish the authenticity of reports that Agya Koo’s wife was right there when the photograph was taken but what is clear is that the actor was enjoying himself.
Obviously, they were not doing the infamous Azonto dance. Perhaps theirs could be described as the latest “things are knocking things” dance.
The controversial photo was taken on Friday night in Kumasi during an expensive and celebrity-studded birthday party organized at the Golden Tulip hotel by the hotel’s general manager, Xavier Hubert.
Agya reportedly performed at the event.
In the photograph, he was very busy behind Yvonne’s back, with one of his hands firmly placed on her sexy tummy.
Yvonne also showed signs of excitement with her mouth widely.
Majid Michel reportedly also ‘captured’ Kyiewaa and also rocked her from behind.
There were other dignitaries at the event who danced the night away. John Dumelo was there as well but he was conspicuously missing on the dance floor, according to photos available to NEWS-ONE.
Yvonne Nelson and Agya Koo don’t have a common cast history. They have never acted before but the leggy actress is always crazy about the acting prowess of the man who is branded as the face of local language movies.
The sensational actress has said she would love to work with Agya Koo.
She reportedly described Agya Koo as a very funny, natural, talented actor who she would love to pair with in a movie.
“I just love him,” Yvonne told Bola Ray of Joy FM. “I can have him as a boyfriend, sugar daddy, father, anything.” she added.  Her comments generated a lot of buzz in the local media, but her dream is yet to materialize.

Wikileaks On Reggie Rockstone

Whistle blower website Wikileaks, did not only leak high profile classified information about Ghanaian politics and politicians, they also released some information about the entertainment industry in Ghana.

Wikileaks, known for releasing confidential diplomatic information from several governments in the world, with its motto: “Help Wikileaks Make Governments Open”, touched on the fastest growing music genre in Ghana, Hiplife and its originator Oseikrom President, Reginald Ossei, popularly known as Reggie Rockstone, in one of its leaked cables.

The Wikileaks cable released on Reggie Rockstone and Hiplife is so far the only positive information released about Ghana in its latest leak.

Wikileaks cable No. 66. Reads r. Shipley’s Film “Living The Hiplife”: Reggie Rockstone and Ghanaian Popular Culture” uses interviews with younger Hiplife musicians, Disc Jockeys and Record Producers, to show how the well-known singer Reggie Rockstone, became known as the “Godfather” of Hiplife music. One Record Producer in the film is Rab Bakari, who grew up in New York and who helped Reggie Rockstone to develop his unique music style. #WIKILEAKS,.

Reggie Rockstone confirmed knowledge of the Wikileaks cable released
about him in an interview on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review”. The Hiplife grandpapa said several people have called him from all over the world to find out how he got on Wikileaks. He said when he first heard the news, he was confused; he thought it was some kind of music or the name of a musician until his mother called him to explain what Wikileads is and all that they do.

“People are just surprised I guess it is called the ‘Jesus syndrome’. Ghanaians did not realize how important I am to the country but its apparent now”.

Unlike the Politicians who are arguing back and forth about who is not corrupt and who is and which presidential candidate smokes wee and who has throat cancer, Reggie Rockstone proudly expressed joy, satisfaction and the fact that the cable about him is the only positive Wikileak on Ghana.

“First of all we thank God that the information is not about me doing anything bad or something really corrupt or something that will shame my country. However, after reading all the other Wikileaks cables it became very apparent that my story was very positive”.

However, the Godfather of Hiplife was not too happy about the fact that it had to take a foreign website to acknowledge the existence of Hiplife in Ghana. He lamented that no government (past and present) has ever acknowledged the Hiplife genre officially, and his contribution to national development as the originator of Hiplife.

“The Ghanaian governments have continuously neglected my input into this country. I am a Pan-African, my father was Nkrumahist, my father believed in Ghana, and he sacrificed for Fashion in Ghana. I have done it for music and continuously, it is like almost to the level of arrogance. They haven’t even officially acknowledged Hiplife and it’s amazing, because Hiplife is the biggest thing in our country. Hiplife is employing the youth, this is what they dance to at the funerals; it is the Hiplife artistes who sing for you when you want to become President of this country”.

Reggie further stated that it is because of Hiplife that Jay Z will come to Ghana; it is because of Hiplife that he got great endorsement deals from Guinness and Glo to use his image for giant billboards to market their brand.

“It’s a new age and a new day, yet still the politicians act like they can’t see it. So when Wikileaks reports such a story and all the other stories are negative you need to see Hiplife and acknowledge it. Hiplife is the order of the day”.

Living The Hiplife.....

Touching on the documentary “Living The Hiplife” mentioned in the Wikileaks cable, Reggie said it is very rich and a highly engaging documentary on Hiplife that has brought together the various stages of Hiplife, from how and when it was started, to its current state. Reggie stressed that no Ghanaian Television station has ever shown this very informative and historic documentary before, but it is shown on foreign Television stations.

LIVING THE HIPLIFE is a highly-engaging and recommended documentary. Shot in Ghana from 2003 to 2006, the film looks at the Hiplife genre as a youth cultural movement that came about with the intersection of many musical influences, from indigenous music, to African American and afro-Caribbean music.

It goes on to explain that interestingly enough, Hiplife emerged out of elite prep schools, because it was in these schools that the young people had access to hip hop through family members that traveled abroad.

“Living The Hiplife” directed by Jesse Weaver Shipley, was featured at the 2007 FESPACO (Pan African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou) and could be used in classes to discuss topics such as syncretization, popular/youth culture, the globalization of hip hop, Africa’s relationship to the Diaspora, and music history in Ghana.

Rab Bakari happens to be Reggie Rockstone’s close friend and partner who helped immensely in the shaping of Hiplife from the early stages with support from other Producers like; Mike Cooke and Zapp Mallet. DJ Rab as Reggie simply calls him was also interviewed in the documentary as a Record Producer.

Rab started with Reggie in the mid-nineties in Accra shaping & defining Hip Hop & evolving into HipLife in Ghana. They later formed Kassa Records. Rab is credited for the sound Production; compositions & marketing directions of Reggie's 1st three classic albums and his long-standing performance as a DJ.
