Yvonne Nelson Supports Boy With Glaucoma

Star actress Yvonne Nelson is on a rescue mission to restore the ailing eye of 22-year-old Richard Amoako, who is gradually losing his sight to Glaucoma.

Richard, a former student of NIIT and Akosombo Senior High School, has been living with Glaucoma for over eight years and is almost losing his sight. Doctors say unless he is operated on, he may lose his sight.

“I feel bad. I wish to be in good condition but we still trying our best to get my sight back. I do hope and believe in God that things will be well. I can’t see clearly. It’s always blur. When someone is coming it is hard to identify who the person is. I hardly read too,” Richard told NEWS-ONE. “I was young when it started but it wasn’t like how it is now. At times my eye becomes red and it itches me. I have been using drops but later, somewhere 2008, it started getting serious,” he added.

The leggy actress and her Glaucoma Foundation management team last week met with the boy and his family to discuss how to support Richard. The actress has been supporting Richard in getting drugs but it appears she needs outside support at this stage.

“What my family is thinking about now is for Richard to gain his sight. In fact he has been a burden to me. He has completed senior high school and he is supposed to continue but because of his sight, he can’t do anything,” Richard’s dad said.

“So anything to be done for my son to gain his sight, I support it. If the surgery can make him gain his sight or there is any other alternative I support it. We have been to a number of eye clinics and the doctor told us that the pressure has gone up again. It is expensive to treat him but we have been supported by sister Yvonne Nelson for over a year now.”

Yvonne told NEWS-ONE that her foundation was raising some form of help for him but it would also need external support because the treatment for Glaucoma was expensive.

“YNGF has been there for him. We have been supporting him since day one, we met him. Ever since he got to us, we have been buying his drugs, doing the best we can to help support him. And everything we do comes straight from our accounts and people are not donating to us.

Everything is from our own pocket. So we are appealing to people, corporate institutions, philanthropists and all who are touched to come on board. We are appealing to them to come on board and support Richard Amoako. He is not the only one; we have other Glaucoma victims that we are supporting. So I’m appealing to Ghanaians to come on board and help support Richard because the treatment for Glaucoma is very expensive. We need some support from the public.”

Yvonne Nelson’s Glaucoma Foundation was launched couple of years ago to campaign against the disease. She has organised a Glaucoma Essay competition among basic school pupils to get them to know about the disease and always get themselves screened. Was Whitney Houston Gay?

The late songstress Whitney Houston was a closet lesbian who binged on drugs and alcohol to soothe the pain caused by living a lie. According to the Daily Mail, sources close to the star have broken the silence on her sexuality following her tragic death.

A rumour that has been circulating for 30 years that Whitney had engaged in a secret relationship with her ex-assistant Robyn Crawford. According to British gay rights activist Peter Tatchell, Whitney’s marriage to R&B bad boy Bobby Brown was a smokescreen.

“It’s important to tell the truth about this aspect of her life,” said Tatchell.

“Whitney was happiest and at her peak in the 1980s when she was with her female partner. 'They were so loved up and joyful together. Perhaps her inability to accept and express her same-sex love contributed to her substance abuse and decline.

“She was pressured into the Bobby Brown marriage. It was a disaster. Her life started going downhill soon afterwards.”

Whitney and Crawford had known each other since the star was 16-years-old. Crawford dropped out of college to work for her. Hours after the singer’s death, Crawford composed a Valentine’s Day-themed tribute to her, which was published in US magazine.

“I first met Whitney when I was 16 and knew right away she was special. Whitney was modelling and had peachy-coloured skin and didn’t look like anyone I’d ever met in New Jersey,” wrote Crawford.

“I can’t believe that I’m never going to hug her or hear her laughter again.”

Both Whitney’s sister-in-law and her former bodyguard have confirmed that the rumours were true.

Ex-husband Bobby Brown also hinted at as much in his autobiography, saying their marriage was a cover-up for her relationships with other women.“I think we got married for all the wrong reasons. Now, I realize Whitney had a different agenda than I did when we got married.
“I believe her agenda was to clean up her image, while mine was to be loved and have children. The media was accusing her of having a bisexual relationship with her assistant, Robin [sic] Crawford. Since she was the American Sweetheart and all, that didn’t go too well with her image.

“In Whitney’s situation, the only solution was to get married and have kids. That would kill all speculation, whether it was true or not.” Whitney’s former bodyguard claims that he once saw Crawford slap the singer because she was flirting with other men. He also revealed that Crawford was furious when Whitney announced that she was going to marry Brown.

Whitney herself responded to the rumours in 2000, saying: “I am a mother, not a lesbian. I am not gay”.

Whitney Houston Wanted To See Jesus Christ

WHITNEY Houston feared "the end was near" in the days before her death, it has been claimed. The pop megastar, who died in a hotel bath on Saturday, also told pals she "really wanted to see Jesus".

According to US website TMZ.com, Whitney was "very spiritual" in her final days — quoting the bible, singing hymns and speaking about the afterlife with friends and family.

On Friday, a day after she sang Jesus Loves Me in her final public performance at Tru nightclub in Hollywood, she told one of her friends: "I'm gonna go see Jesus — I want to see Jesus."

The following morning, hours before her death, Whitney was discussing a bible passage involving John the Baptist and Jesus.

She reportedly said: "You know, he's so cool, I really want to see that Jesus."

Meanwhile, Whitney's ex Bobby Brown has been told NOT to attend her funeral.

R&B singer Bobby is said to be "extremely disappointed" after hearing from people closely connected with her family. He is the father of Whitney's 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina, who was comforted by her mum's mentor Clive Davis on Saturday.

Davis decided to proceed with his planned pre-Grammy party at the same hotel where Whitney died — apparently causing outrage among the star's family.

US celeb gossip website Radaronline.com quoted a family insider as saying: "The mood in (Davis's) suite was just that of pure shock. Bobbi Kristina was absolutely inconsolable, she was rocking back and forth on the couch, crying hysterically. "Clive was already dressed in his tux and most of Whitney's family was already dressed for the party.

"There wasn't any mention of the party proceeding or being cancelled by Clive. He told Whitney's family that they could stay in his suite as long as they needed to, and then after about 45 minutes with them, he left.

"He said he had to go downstairs and take care of the guests, but the family had no idea that the party was going to proceed. Whitney's aunt, Mary Jones, was absolutely stunned that the party was going ahead, and she was very upset that it hadn't been cancelled."

Ghanaian Entertainment Company In Lil Wayne Concert Brouhaha

Ghanaian event organizers, 233Connect has denied online rumours suggesting that the outfit is set to organize a musical concert next month, with American hip hop artiste Lil Wayne as the main headline act.

The publication, originating from an entertainment blog xclusivegh, sparked a sequence of wild rumours on various social media platforms, with most music fans calling to find out if the rumuors were true or not.

“It is not true that we are bringing down Lil Wayne for a concert in March. This is a false publication that shouldn’t be taken serious.

It is important to note that while the blog wanted the whole world to know that it had an exclusive story, no official/representative of 233Connect was communicated to or asked about the truth or otherwise.

This is purely a figment of the website, and we ask all music lovers and keen admirers of 233Connect to treat it with all the contempt it deserves,” the company said in a release in Accra.

“In as much as we cannot determine what goes on these blogs, responsible journalism demands courtesy to persons whom some of these stories might affect. This is something the blog didn’t do,” it added.

The report comes months after the production outfit staged the biggest foreign act concert in Ghana with T-Pain on December 24 2011.

The company also organised Fabolous and Redcafe Live In Ghana, and Mario and Shontelle Live in Ghana. “We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Ghanaian public for their support thus far, and wish to state that 233Connect is in for the long haul.

Long live Ghanaian music, long live 233Connect. 233Connect, music is alive when it is live,” it concluded.
