Ghanaian movie producers and directors have a way of reflecting
happenings in society in their movies and it therefore comes as no
surprise that there is a new Ghanaian movie that tells the story of the
ongoing load shedding of electricity.
The movie, ‘Electricity Power’, is currently causing a stir in Kumasi
and other parts of the country, not only because of the story line, but
also because the director used some of the best broadcast journalists
from the Ashanti Region as actors.
Journalists from the Ashanti region that played leading roles in the movie include Mmrantee Hene from
Otec FM,
Nana Ampofo from Fox FM, Nowa King from New Mercury FM, Roman Fada,
Dove FM, Eugene Moratt, also from New Mercury FM, DJ Cosby from Light FM
and others whose names were not readily available.
They were cast alongside celebrated actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly
known as Lil Win, seasoned actor Akrobotu, the Kumasi-based sensation
Matilda Asare and Kumasi-based gospel artiste Lady Diana.
“It is the public who changed the name to ‘Dumso Dumso’ after we first released the movie some five weeks ago.
The original name was ‘Electricity Power’ and because of the high demand for it, we decided to continue the story.
The continuation would be on the market this week.
“Movies are not just to entertain, they are also to educate and that
is why we decided to use this to give some education of how fraud and
dubious characters can cause a whole community to suffer from erratic
power supply”, Eugene Morrat, the Executive Producer told NEWS-ONE.
He said what people forget is that when there is disruption in power
supply, a lot of local businesses run at a loss and that the movie tells
the story of someone who went for a loan to set up a cold store for his
wife but the business collapsed due to erratic power supply and the
woman had to go into prostitution to support the home.
‘Electricity Power’ was directed by Jones Agyeman and is from the stables of E&E Productions
