Ghanaian Actor And Producer Godwin Kotey Is Dead

Tragic information reaching Peacefmonline.com indicates that Ghanaian actor and producer, Godwin Kotey is dead.

He is reported to have died this morning at the Legon Hospital after taken ill for about a year.

Mr. Kotey's last movie was 'I Sing Of A Well' by Leila Djansi where he played Akorfa Adjeani-Asiedu's husband.

Hailed as one of the great actors in Ghana, Godwin Kotey was indeed a remarkable man who over the years established himself as one of the most dedicated and creative directors in the country.

As an educator, actor, playwright, producer and director, he inspired and set ablazed paths in the Performing Arts leaving distinct footprints with his flair, technique and originality.

Within the industry, Godwin’s unique style and innovation was the power with which he captivated audiences.

His achievements in the field included directing Smash TV in 1996 and 1997 and Taxi Driver in 1999. He was also one of the directors that took the ACRAG and Charted Institute of Marketing award for Best Television Programme of the year for Taxi Driver.

In 2001, at the prestigious African Film Festival in Burkina Faso - FESPACO, Godwin won an award for Ghana with his film, The Scent of Danger.

A meticulous director who will go to all lengths to ensure quality in his work, the late Godwin Kotey was the Creative Director for the internationally praised Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana in 2008.
